So this past weekend, I accompanied a beautiful young med-student to a formal at her school. At said formal I was introduced to many new people. Personally I, and many of my fellow Haitians for that matter, are
kissers when it comes to saying hello/goodbye. Being so used to it, I often forget some people don't!! Lets just say its very AWKWARD when you're going in for a peck on the cheek and they put up their hand for a handshake!! Or what about if one person whips out a handshake and your hand is prepped for a good ol' "dap"?? Also an uncomfortable situation...please share your strange encounters in the comment section...don't be bashful, you can be anonymous if you'd like.
As your fellow Haitian, I completely understand. Whether I am meeting a Haitian or non-Haitian, I only kiss if they are family or they come in for one first...As for the "dap," it depends on the setting and the person. I usually go for the handshake 'cause you can turn that into a dap easier than turning a dap into a handshake...
ReplyDeleteI see what you're saying...but its def awkward when you take the 'L' lmao
