Sweet new Netflix agreement

Yesterday, Netflix signed a new deal with Universal and Twentieth Century Fox. What does that mean for Netflix customers??? A little bit of bad, and a lot a bit of GOOD! First the bad...you will have to wait 28 days after the retail release of dvds from this studio before you can rent them on Netflix (similar to the deal with Time Warner). In return, we'll be getting more content for instant viewing and TV Streaming (that means your favorite fox shows, even the throwback ones, will be available to watch. yes the old seasons too). I'm excited...soon all studios will join the party if they wanna keep up w/ their customer's needs!

UFC: 112 "Invincible"

3 Main Events, 2 of which are title fights!Looks to be a really good ppv again this month. Starting from the bottom, Matt Hughes vs. Renzo Gracie. Two legends in MMA meeting for the first time...Matt is best known for his world class wrestling and Renzo is best know for the time he would not tap in a fight...to the point that his opponent snapped his arm! No matter who wins...this is gonna be a good one!
Lightweight Championship: BJ Penn vs. Frankie Edgar. BJ has a slight height advantage, and more experience. Frankie has really come up the ranks in this division, but I don't think he's quite ready to take on BJ at this point of his career. I think Penn will keep his title with a decisive victory.
Middleweight Championship: Anderson "the spider" Silva vs. Demian Maia. I know very little about Maia...i've heard he does well on the ground, but anyone who's seen the spider fight knows that he's not letting it get to the ground! The spider is often called the best pound for pound fighter in the world...his cocky attitude and unorthodox style make him seem off, but once he connects, it's lights out! I say Silva by knockout!

iPhone OS 4.0 Update

So yesterday's presentation has finished and some rumors have been confirmed while others have been put to rest. Apple announced that there will be 100 new features coming with OS 4.0 this summer, but they chose to only focus on 7 'tentpole' upgrades, as they put it. Here they are:
1) Multitasking!!! they are doing it in their own way...which looks to save more battery power than most multitasking phones.
2) Folders: people like me have 11 pages of apps and it's annoying to flip through them all to get to new ones...folders will allow you to group apps into....you guessed it! folders.
3) Email update: OS 4.0 will allow for a unified email box and the ability to open up attachments in seperate applications...for example...open a word doc in a word processing app. This can become very useful.
4) iBooks: the iBook store/reader from the iPad will be added the the iPhone...whooopy....
5) Enterpise Update: if you use your phone for business, look for better protection, Mobile device management, wireless app distribution, ssl vpn support....
6) Game Center: this is kinda big for the gaming industry...apple finally realized how they can really profit in the gaming world. 3rd party companies like OpenFeint offered acheivements & leader boards for a wide variety of games...now apple will do that for all games and allow you to have a friends list who you can invite to play games, gift apps too, and compare accomplishments.
7) iAds: tired of seeing those ads in your free apps? well apple will be allowing companies to put interactive and more entertaining ads that won't take you to safari in their apps. I'm just hoping this doesn't get overboard.

Some other new things worth mentioning...ability to change home screen wallpaper, ability to change passcode to use letters, faster app switching, face detection in photo app, spell check, and possible video conferencing????

Expect an announcement about the next iPhone to come out in mid-June. The worst thing I heard at the presentation was...OS 4.0 will not work on the first gen iPhone, and multitasking will not work on the iPhone 3G....BOOOOOO.

Who doesn't Love their job?

This has been one hell of a fun week. Monday I was a cubical jockey, Tuesday I spent half the day as a field tester and the other half as a mailman, and today I'm going to be a teacher or system trainer if you will. Who said engineers aren't diverse?!? Tomorrow I'll be a student w/ a big test afterwork...wish me luck. iPhone Excitement Returns!

Thats right!!!! Just days after the release of the iPad, Apple announces an iPhone OS 4.0 press conference will be held no later than friday!!! Thats right they are holding a press conference on April 8th, thats this week. Hopefully they confirm more rumors than they deny...be sure to check back here for a full recap.
